LSD

Hey y'all!

Got my shins in order (FINALLY!!) and headed out for a long run today (LSD being long slow distance :) ). Did 8 miles in the hilliest city I have ever lived. Yay Omaha! I felt sooo good though. I listened to RHCP the whole time and it went super well. Knees are achy and calves are sore now but not painful so I'm pleased.

Hey Kim- Sorry your race was cancelled. Did you get a ton of snow?

My kitten is chasing the letters as they are typed and I can barely see my entry so I think that's about it for the evening. Oh, there he almost fell off my desk. Saved him. He's back staring at the words as they appear on the screen. He chases the mouse also.

Have a great week everyone! Run on!

bloody calves!

I had planned on running 8 miles today (well, yesterday). Unfortunately, Omaha got out butts handed to us on a silver platter by the first thunderstorm of the season. The winds were gusting up to 60 mph so I headed inside for treadmill time. I fully intended on doing the full 8 miles (there's a TV in the gym thankfully!) but my calves had other ideas. They usually hurt at first when I switch back and forth from the treadmill to outside running, but it generally goes away after a half a mile or so. Not the case today. I decided at 1 mi in with my calves on fire that I would try for another mile and if it hadn't let up by then I was headed home for RICE.

Needless to say, I ran 2 miles, spent at least 20 min stretching my calves alone, another 15 min on the ice and popped a couple NSAIDs. They feel better already. I think I'll try again tomorrow. ;)

Another beauty of a day!

I really wanted to post pictures in this blog, but I've got pretty much nothing, so I put up this pretty picture of downtown Omaha which I found on Google. I'm going to put up a couple from Patty's Day, but I'll put that in the other blog. Today I went running in the glorious weather! We had high 50s and sun, with moderate wind. I had a speed workout, which was terrible! It wasn't too bad I guess, it was just hard to run into the wind like that.

I tried on a new sports bra today at a shop in town that is closing (Intima). I even got sized! Are you ready for this? 34DDDD/36DDD. EEEK!! I know, enormous. Anyway, the sports bra did not fit, it was too big around and she didn't have any 34s in my size. Also, it didn't reduce the bounce enough. I never buy anything that doesn't reduce the bounce as much as my CW-X. If I was a short distance runner, maybe. However, I am not and so I must be picky.

Better be off, it's a busy day tomorrow! Gotta catch up on my homework. I'm hopeless.

Run on!

Reese's Run

I read on KimPossible's blog that Run Like A Girl and Ramblings of a Running Addict are raising money to run a marathon in Barbados to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. They are hosting a Virtual Run on April 24th to help their efforts. Please take a look at their blogs (and Run Like A Girl's adorable little girl) for more information and help them out if you can.

As a physical therapy student, arthritis is one of the biggest causes that brings people to PT. However, many people forget that kids can get arthritis too. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis affects nearly 50,000 kids in the US. Help out and put in a donation and a 4 miler on April 24th in honor of Reese. You'll be glad you did!

le sigh, procrastination

I am the queen of it. Had a big test Friday and a wedding Thursday night so I got about 2 hours of sleep. Needless to say I did not get my 6 miler in on Saturday. Then yesterday, I was just plain lazy. However, I did just go out and run it today. It was my first run with my 305 and it was so awesome! I got to watch my HR and (eek!) it got up to 193 at one point. My age predicted is 196, but in reality, it is probably higher than that due to the fact that I've been running as long as I have.

Regret: do not wear black socks when it is 65+ degrees out. Thank goodness they were DryFit socks, but my feet got hot. I do really like these socks though, they are thick on the bottom and "meshy" on the top with the fitted arch band. The ankle is thicker too so when I am dragging ass at the end of my long runs I don't cut the crap out of my medial malleoli (the "ankle bone" bumps on the inside).

So today was hot and long but that's how I like it ;)

Run on everyone!

Great Day!!

Today has been an excellent day for me, running wise. First off, I came home and not only did my Just Finish shirt come, but my Garmin 305 came (granted no one was here to sign for it so I won't actually get it till tomorrow)!! Then, I ran 5 excellent miles on the treadmill, which I had been dreading all day...it's supposed to be warm by this weekend and I hate running on the treadmill. However, I was the only person in there so I got to turn on Scrubs and watch TV, which made the run go by really fast. I came home from that and decided that since it's day one of my marathon training for Seattle I am going to sign up today. Start right at the beginning. Hopefully, this will help me maintain my motivation!!

Yay for a good day!

x-posted to Just Finish blog!

So in training terms, my training for the half is going to change a little, but it won't be too bad. I am running something like twice a week instead of 3 times with a bunch more cross training.

Today: 5 miles on the treadmill. Hips were sore (rode 7 miles on my bike last week) and my back felt a little strained toward the end but I just haven't done a lot since I was so sick. I was sick again last weekend and had so much crap to do this week that today was the first day I had time to work out. Luckily today was the actual scheduled day for my run so that was good.

Okay...the server had too many people registering so I'm off to try again. Woo! Marathon time!

GPS

I'm buying a Garmin Forerunner 305!! I found one on Ebay for $168. Cheaps. I'm pretty darn excited, especially because once I move to Litchfield I don't know if I will have interwebs to look up distances.

I'm so darn excited!!!

le sigh

The weather has given us beauty! I rode my bike the 3 miles to and from school today as XT. It was gorgeous! And all the dirty snow is melting, which makes getting out to run/walk/bike a lot easier.

Anyway, got a big run for the weekend and I'm hoping to do it outside at Zorinski.

Also, I really want a brownie.

That's all. Run on!

quick post while Maren gets ready for our trip to the grocery store...

Ran 3 miles outside today! It was only 30 degrees and quite windy (for half of the O&B) but sunny so that really helped. I think it went pretty well for my first run back after a LONG bout with respiratory disease after respiratory disease.

Anyhoo, lots of tests and things to do this week and next and then we have spring break. Hope to do another 3 on Thursday (that's the other test day I have) before heading down to KC to see UNO play in the conference tourney.

How's everyone else's running going?

Back to Live Action

Well, my cold is rounding its final bend. I am still coughing, but last weekend when I thought I was getting better, I got pink eye and everything got worse. ALAS!

Anyhoo, in the meantime my best friend Jaclyn told me that she was going to be running in Rock-n-Roll Seattle for Team In Training. The marathon is 17 weeks away and since I've been running for my half in May (minus the last two sicky weeks) I think I'm going to do it with her!! How exciting! I may nix the Stillwater half though, because of $$ reasons. I have never been to Seattle so I'm super stoked. So, follow her progress on her TIT page and cheer for the both of us! Eee!
